The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR & Adjoining Areas vide its notification dated 13th December 2021 has issued direction under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for complete ban on the use of DG Sets, except for emergency purposes.
The following shall only be categorized as emergency purposes/services, for which DG Set operation shall be permitted as exception in NCR, whenever such orders for banning/stoppage of use of DG Sets are in force –
- Medical Services (Hospital/Nursing Home/Health care facilities) including units involved in manufacturing of life saving medical equipments/devices, drugs and medicines
- Elevators/Escalators/ travelators etc. in various installations
- Railway Services/Railway stations
- Metro Rail Corporation Services, including trains and stations
- Airports and lnter-state Bus Terminals(lSBfs) Sewage Treatment Plants
- Water pumping Stations
- National Security/Defence related activities/Projects of national importance
The commission’s recent directive for shutting down industrial units that use diesel generator sets in NCR as a temporary measure to bring down pollution levels in Delhi and adjoining areas had threatened to disrupt production of syringes and needles.
Therefore through this order, it has been clarified that the life saving medical devices and drugs are categorised as emergency purposes which will be permitted to use diesel generator sets as an exception in NCR.
