The Government of West Bengal has taken a step to streamline the resolution of labor disputes by expanding the jurisdiction of Industrial Tribunals, Labor Courts, Employees’ Compensation Courts, and Employees’ Insurance Courts.
The jurisdiction of these tribunals and courts for adjudication disputes/cases has been broadened to include a wider range of labor laws, including the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, the Employees’ Compensation Act, 1923, the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, and the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
The government has empowered the heads of directorates and judges-in-charge to distribute cases among tribunals and courts to ensure efficient disposal.
This move by the West Bengal government aims to strengthen the labor justice system, promote industrial harmony, and protect the rights of workers.
