Upcoming Dry Days for Bye-Elections in South Andaman

The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration (DIPR) on September 11th 2024 issued a circular declaring DRY DAYS on account of bye-elections for gram panchayat ward members.

DRY DAYS:

Dry days are specific dates when the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited. These measures are typically enforced during elections to prevent any potential influence or disturbances related to alcohol consumption, thereby promoting a peaceful electoral process.

Designated Dry Days

The Deputy Commissioner has declared the following dates as dry days:

  1. September 29, 2024
    • Purpose: Date of Poll
    • On this day, voters will head to the polls to cast their votes for the Gram Panchayat Ward Members in Mannarghat-1 and Ramakrishnapur. To maintain the sanctity of the electoral process, no alcoholic beverages will be sold.
  2. October 1, 2024
    • Purpose: Date of Counting
    • This day marks the counting of votes. Again, to ensure an orderly environment, the sale of alcohol will be prohibited.

Affected Establishments

On these dry days, all establishments selling or serving alcohol within the Gram Panchayat Ramakrishnapuram area are required to comply with this directive. This includes:

  • Liquor shops
  • Hotels
  • Restaurants
  • Clubs
  • Other establishments serving liquor

The order extends to all types of licenses, including:

  • IMFL vending licenses
  • ANIIDCO outlets
  • CSD Canteens
  • Defence Canteens
  • Police Messes
  • Private bar licensees
