The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification regarding the Development of Nagar Vans/ Vatikas under the Nagar Van Yojana (NVY). This notification was issued on 27th December, 2022.
The scheme aims to create forest/green spaces in urban areas. It seeks to develop Nagar Van/Vatikas and protect forest land within cities/towns or its fringes from degradation and encroachment.
The UGC requests higher educational institutions and their affiliated colleges/institutions to develop Nagar Van/Vatikas in their institution premises. These will be developed in coordination with the Forest Department of the States/UTs.
