On December 12, 2024, the Government of Tripura issued an important notification that will have a significant impact on workers across the state. The government announced the revision of minimum wages and variable dearness allowances (VDA) for a wide range of sectors. These changes aim to ensure fair wages in line with the rising cost of living and the economic conditions of the state.
The revised wages and allowances are set to come into effect on October 1, 2024, and will apply to workers employed in the following sectors:
- Shops and Establishments
- Agriculture
- Auto Rikshaw
- Beedi Industry
- Construction or Maintenance of Roads/Building Operations
- Cooperative Stores and Societies, including large multipurpose cooperative societies (LAMPS), primary marketing cooperative societies (PMCS), and primary agricultural cooperative societies (PACS)
- Goldsmiths
- Hotels and Restaurants
- Incense Stick Manufacturing
- Mechanical Workshops
- Petrol Pumps
- Private Security Guards
- Private Teaching Institutes and Coaching Schools (excluding state government-aided private schools)
- Public Motor Transport
- Rubber Plantations
- Safai Karamachari (Sanitation Workers)
- Stone Breaking and Stone Crushing
