The Department of Economics and Statistics, Thiruvananthapuram, has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers for agricultural laborers and industrial workers for June 2024. These indices, based on 2011–12 = 100 and 1998–99 = 100, reflect regional variations across Kerala. For instance, CPI numbers for Thiruvananthapuram increased from 205 in May 2024 to 208 in June 2024 and from 433 to 439 on the old base of 1998-99 = 100. Additionally, as per G.O. (P) No. 196/2016/LBR, the Kerala government has revised the minimum wage applicable as of December 21, 2016. For example, the monthly basic wage for a special grade manager is now ₹9,330, while a grade ‘D’ attendant earns ₹8,490. This update supersedes the earlier wage structure and aims to adjust compensation in line with cost-of-living changes.
