The State Government of Tamil Nadu in its press release dated 31st May 2020 has extended the lockdown till June 30 while easing restrictions in most part of the State.
As per the new guidelines, the government has allowed public transport to resume throughout the State except for Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Chengalpattu districts. Salons and parlors in the state capital will also be allowed to operate without air conditioning, subject to guidelines that were issued earlier.
IT and private institutions will be allowed to function with 100% workforce, except in Chennai, However, work from home option is to be encouraged for 20% staff.
All shops and large retail establishments, except malls, can function with 50 percent workforce barring in containment zones, from June 8. Only five customers will be allowed inside the shops.
The state government, however, has continued its ban on religious places under the new guidelines. It has also extended the ban on theatres, gyms, and educational institutions. Further, tourist destinations like Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Yercaud will continue to remain out of bounds for tourists.
