The Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations, 2021.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 6th September 2021 has published the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations, 2021 to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018.

Through this amendment, the requirement for specific migration limits of substances from plastic materials intended to be in contact with articles of food has been notified.

The maximum migrant limit for antimony shall be 0.04(mg/kg) and for Phthalic acid, bis (2-Ethylhexyl) ester (DEHP) it shall be 1.5 (mg/kg)

Therefore the plastic materials and articles shall not release the substances in quantities exceeding the limit mentioned above.

All packaging materials of plastic origin shall pass the prescribed overall migration limit of 60mg/kg or 10mg/dm2 when tested as per IS 9845 with no visible color migration.
