The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India through circular dated the 22nd September, 2021 has issued the Food Safety and Standards (Foods for Infant Nutrition) Amendment Regulations, 2021. The amendment redefines infant milk food as follows:
“Where an infant formula in powder format is manufactured without use of any vegetable oil, linoleate, vitamin E, starch, specified food additive and optional ingredients, the product may be named as ‘Infant Milk Food‘.” Objections or suggestions, if any, may be sent by e-mail within 60 days from date of publication.
