The Environment (Protection) Draft Amendment Rules, 2022.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on 31st May 2022, has published the Draft Environment (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2022 which shall come into force after one year from the date of publication of final notification in the Official Gazette.

The Amendment is brought under schedule 1 which deals with the standards for emission or discharge of environmental pollutants in which the standards for Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPU) units has been notified.

All petroleum coke calciners shall install continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) for PM (Particulate Matter) and  SO2 (Sulphur Dioxide), as per CPCB’s guidelines. CO monitoring by CEMS and VOC testing once every quarter shall be conducted to have better process control.

The Ministry has invited objections or suggestions on the draft rules from the public which shall be addressed to the Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, Jor Bagh Road, New Delhi-110003, or send it to the e-mail address: mscb.cpcb@nic.in and sonu.singh@gov.in. within sixty days.
