The Central Drug Standard Control Organization vide notice dated 19.01.2021 has provided that the licenses granted before issue of Cosmetic Rules, 2020 shall continue to remain valid. The license for import or manufacture of cosmetics was previously granted under Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945. The CDSCO issued Cosmetic Rules, 2020 w.e.f 15.12.2020 under which license for import or manufacture of cosmetics shall be granted thereafter.
However, license for import or manufacture of cosmetics granted as per Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 shall continue to be valid till:
- The expiry of the license or
- Eighteen months from issue of the Cosmetic Rules, whichever is later.
The CDSCO has also issued FAQ and Guidance document for the Cosmetic Rules, 2020.
