The resurgence of dengue and malaria cases in India has ignited a pressing need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to combat this vector-borne disease. The high-level inter-ministerial meeting convened by the Union Health Secretary underscored the gravity of the situation and the urgent steps required to prevent an outbreak of dengue. Additionally, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has also issued a press release on its measures for prevention of malaria.

During the conclave, the Union Health Secretary highlighted the growing concern of zoonotic diseases, which affect both humans and animal health, and the need for a comprehensive approach to address this issue. 75% of newly emerging infectious diseases in the last three decades were said to be zoonotic in nature.
Union Health Minister Reviews States’ Preparedness for Vector-Borne Diseases Ahead of Monsoon Season
During the meeting, the importance of optimal utilization of budgets to invest in state health infrastructure was emphasized. The states were advised to involve the Ayushman Bharat-Health & Wellness Centres for case notification, case management, and ensuring community engagement through information, education, and communication (IEC) and social mobilization campaigns.
