PM Surya Ghar: A Solar Revolution in India

The government offers a generous subsidy of up to 40% to households, making rooftop solar installations more affordable. Additionally, collateral-free loans at low-interest rates are available to facilitate the adoption of solar power. The government has also launched the “Model Solar Village” initiative, aiming to establish one such village in each district. These villages will serve as examples of sustainable energy practices and community empowerment.

Government Launches New Solar Power Scheme for Tribal and PVTG Communities

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued an order on the financial outlay and funds for the implementation of the new solar power scheme specifically designed for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) habitations and villages. The government has approved a total financial outlay of Rs. 915 crore for the scheme. The funds will be allocated from the Department of Alternative and New Energy (DAPST) of the MNRE.

MNRE Seeks Public Input on Approving Solar PV Cell Manufacturers and Models

According to the draft amendment, all projects falling under the purview of ALMM shall have to mandatorily source their solar PV modules from models and manufacturers included in ALMM List-I for solar PV modules. Such solar PV modules in turn shall have to use solar PV cells from amongst the models and manufacturers enlisted in ALMM List-II for solar PV cells.

Government Expands Vendor Base for PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Previously, only vendors registered within UTs were eligible for rooftop solar installations under the scheme. Recognizing the limited availability of vendors in these regions, the MNRE has now allowed vendors from adjacent states to operate in UTs without the need for additional bank guarantees.

Operational Guidelines for Model Solar Villages

The operational guidelines provide a roadmap for states and union territories to implement the scheme effectively. They outline the eligibility criteria for villages, the process of selecting beneficiaries, the technical specifications for solar installations, and the financial mechanisms for supporting the initiative. Additionally, the guidelines emphasize the importance of capacity building and awareness creation among villagers.

New Vendor Rating System Introduced For Rooftop Solar Industry

The Vendor Rating Programme (VRP) will assess vendors on various parameters, including workmanship, component quality, installation practices, and safety standards. The ratings will be displayed on a national portal, enabling consumers to make informed choices when selecting vendors.

Implementation of Awareness & Outreach Under PM Surya Ghar

This government initiative aims to incentivize rooftop solar installations in residential homes across India. The program aims to achieve 1 crore rooftop solar installations and provide free or low-cost electricity to participating households.
