Clarifications Issued on Battery Recycling and Labeling Requirements
The requirement for “minimum use of domestically recycled materials” in battery manufacturing applies to any type of material obtained from recycling waste products within India. For imported batteries or battery packs, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration number can be displayed on either the equipment containing the battery or the packaging of the equipment containing the battery.
Government Extends Deadline for Filing E-Waste Returns
The MoEF&CC has now extended the deadline for registered entities to file quarterly and annual returns on their e-waste management activities. The last date for filing these reports for the 2023-2024 financial year is extended to June 30, 2024.

CPCB now mandates that all entities involved in the plastic packaging supply chain must register on the EPR Portal by May 31, 2024. This includes producers, importers, and brand owners. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has published a detailed video on its enhanced security features of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Portal for plastic waste. The services of the EPR Portal were resumed with enhanced security features on March 01, 2024.
CPCB Requests E-waste Stakeholders To Register On Online Portal
CPCB has developed an online EPR Portal for management of e-waste. Hence, all producers, manufacturers, recyclers and refurbishes of e-waste are requested register on this portal by December 31, 2023.

Ministry of Environment Implements Rules for Effective Waste Tyre Management
All registered producers on the Waste Tyre EPR Portal are required to submit their Annual Returns for the fiscal year 2022-23 and Quarterly Returns for the first and second quarters of the fiscal year 2023-24. These returns should be submitted on or before the end of the month succeeding the quarter to which the return pertains, through the designated EPR portal.
