Since its establishment in 1993, the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women has diligently served as a safeguard for women’s rights, operating from the Kalasa Mahal building in Chepauk. Recently reconstituted in 2022, the Commission continues its pivotal role in addressing issues faced by women across the state. This notification was published on July 16, 2024.
Recognizing the gaps between legal provisions and their implementation, the Commission has taken a proactive step by establishing a Free Legal Aid Service Clinic on its premises. With financial support from the National Women’s Commission, the clinic aims to provide accessible legal assistance to women in need. Equipped with essential facilities such as computers and furniture and staffed by advocates from the State Free Legal Services Authority, the clinic operates from Monday to Friday, 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
The inauguration, led by the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Women’s Commission, marked a significant milestone. This initiative promises to streamline access to justice, empowering women by guiding them through legal processes and advocating for their rights effectively.
