The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Pubic Distribution (MoCAFPD) vide order dated 31.05.2021, has amended the Sugarcane (Control) Order,1996. The following amendments are issued:
- New definition of “factory or sugar factory” to further include precincts where sugarcane is crushed. The factories manufacturing ethanol from sugar or sugar syrup are also included. Corresponding changes has been brought about in the definition of “producer of sugar”.
- In case of production of only ethanol, time for taking steps as per clause 6A will be 3 years from the date of filing of the Industrial Entrepreneur Memorandum. A new proviso states the requirements of submission of performance guarantee is not required in such factories.
