The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has been actively implementing the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to combat air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. Since the onset of Stage I and II of GRAP on October 15th and 22nd, 2024, respectively, various agencies have taken significant steps to mitigate air pollution. A press release on its measures was issued on November 3, 2024.
Key Actions Taken
Intensified Inspections:
- Over 7,000 Construction and Demolition (C&D) sites were inspected, leading to penalties and closures for non-compliance.
- Approximately 1,400 industries were inspected, and actions were taken against violators.
- Around 1,300 DG sets were inspected, and non-compliant units were penalized.
Enhanced Pollution Control Measures:
- Deployment of mechanical road sweeping machines, water sprinklers, and anti-smog guns to reduce road dust pollution.
- Strict enforcement against non-compliant vehicles, including those without PUC certificates or exceeding emission norms.
- Stringent measures to prevent the burning of municipal solid waste.
Monitoring and Control Room:
A dedicated GRAP Monitoring Control Room has been established to track and coordinate enforcement actions. Regular monitoring and information sharing between agencies is also undertaken to ensure effective implementation of GRAP measures.
These efforts are aimed at significantly reducing air pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR region during the winter months. The CAQM and concerned agencies will continue to monitor air quality and take necessary actions to ensure public health and environmental protection.
