The Department of Labor has introduced the Karmachari scheme to promote the concept of working while studying among students. The scheme establishes clear guidelines to ensure that students can balance their academic responsibilities with part-time employment. Employers are required to limit work hours to a maximum of 4 hours on school days, with the possibility of extending to 6 hours on holidays, ensuring that the employment does not interfere with the students’ studies. Additionally, if students are to work during nighttime hours, prior consent from their parents, school principals, and the students themselves is mandatory. Employers must also provide essential amenities, including adequate travel arrangements, seating, and refreshments. The scheme’s implementation is further supported by a job portal that facilitates student registration, employer verification, and the submission and resolution of grievances, ensuring a smooth and effective process.
