The Government of Kerala has introduced amendments to the existing notification under the Factories Act, 1948, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and simplicity in the inspection of factories. The key changes include the redefinition of jurisdictional powers for Inspectors of Factories and Boilers in Grades I and II. Specifically, Grade I Inspectors will now oversee all factories within their designated areas and act as the controlling officer for Grade II Inspectors. Similarly, Grade II inspectors will supervise additional inspectors within their jurisdictions. Additionally, the amendment stipulates that the same inspector cannot conduct consecutive inspections of the same factory. These updates are part of the Centralized Inspection System (CIS) introduced under the Business Reform Action Plan to improve the ease of doing business in the state. The amendments reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring better governance in the industrial sector. This notification was published on August 12, 2024.
