Delhi’s air quality has shown significant improvement, leading to the revocation of Stage IV and Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), according to a press release issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). This press release was issued on December 5, 2024.
As of December 5th, 2024, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is 165, categorized as “Moderate.” This is a substantial improvement compared to the levels triggering Stage IV restrictions.
The Supreme Court previously directed the continuation of Stage IV GRAP measures even if the AQI falls below 450. However, a recent hearing allowed for a reduction to Stage II based on current air quality data.
Weather forecasts from IMD and IITM indicate that air quality will likely remain in the “Poor” category in the coming days.
Considering the improving air quality and the disruptive nature of Stage IV and III restrictions, the CAQM Sub-Committee decided to revoke these stricter measures.
Remaining Measures
- Stage I and Stage II of GRAP will remain in effect across the National Capital Region (NCR).
- Implementing agencies are responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with the remaining GRAP stages.
- Construction and demolition sites with violation notices will not be allowed to resume operations without specific permission.
Citizens are urged to continue following air quality advisories and minimizing pollution sources.
The CAQM Sub-Committee will closely monitor air quality and weather conditions and may reinstate stricter measures if necessary. The revised GRAP schedule can be accessed on the CAQM website
This development provides some relief for Delhi residents but emphasizes the need for continued vigilance and efforts to combat air pollution.
