The Government of India has introduced new regulations for solar thermal systems, devices, and components. The Solar Thermal Systems, Devices and Components (Quality Control) Order, 2024 was published on October 14, 2024 and shall come into force on April 12, 2025.
This order aims to ensure the quality and safety of these products in the Indian market.
Key Provisions of the Order
The order applies to goods or articles specified in the schedule annexed to the order. Solar thermal systems must also comply with the corresponding Indian Standards.
However, it excludes goods meant for export.
Products must bear the Standard Mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-I of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The BIS is responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with the standards.
The BIS, in consultation with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), will conduct market surveillance to ensure that products bearing the Standard Mark conform to the specified standards.
Non-compliance with the order can result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
The implementation of these regulations will help ensure the quality and reliability of solar thermal systems in India. The government aims to boost the adoption of solar energy for heating applications and contribute to India’s renewable energy goals.
