The Government of Sikkim has released its official list of public holidays for the year 2025. As per the notification issued on November 22, 2024, there are several important updates for government employees, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and educational institutions across the state.
1. Official Public Holidays for 2025
In line with the tradition, the Government of Sikkim has declared a list of specific days to be observed as public holidays throughout the year. These holidays will apply to all Government offices, PSUs, and Educational Institutions in the state.
2. Second and Fourth Saturdays Off
In a move aimed at promoting work-life balance, the state government has also declared that all second and fourth Saturdays will be holidays for government employees, PSUs, and educational institutions. This is in addition to the regular public holidays, allowing employees a consistent weekend break every two weeks.
3. Restricted Holidays: A New Option for Employees
Apart from the regular public holidays, the notification introduces the concept of Restricted Holidays. These are days that employees can choose from but are not mandatory. Government employees are allowed to avail of only one restricted holiday per year. This provides employees with the flexibility to take time off for personal or cultural reasons, depending on their preference.
