Rules For Competitive Examination For Combined Medical Services

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has released the rules and eligibility criteria for the upcoming Combined Medical Services (CMS) Examination 2024. This exam is conducted to fill vacancies in various medical officer positions across Central Health Services, Railways, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). This notification was issued on April 10, 2024.

Who Can Apply?

The exam is open to all candidates, including men, women, and transgender individuals. It’s crucial for interested candidates to carefully read the exam rules and the subsequent notification issued by the UPSC.

Exam Format and Scheduling

The UPSC will conduct the exam as per the format outlined in Appendix I of the rules. The exact date(s) and location(s) of the exam will be fixed by the Commission.

Applying for Multiple Services

Candidates can apply for one or more services/posts mentioned in the announcement. After qualifying for the written exam, they will be required to submit a Detailed Application Form indicating their preferred services in order of priority. The Commission advises candidates to choose their preferences carefully as these will be considered during the final appointment process.

Important Points Regarding Preferences

  • Candidates must initially specify their preference between Category I (Central Health Service) and Category II (other services) considering their eligibility.
  • Following the category choice, they can indicate their preferences within each service category.
  • Failing to indicate preferences will disqualify a candidate for service allocation.
  • The Commission will recommend candidates based on their category preference, merit rank, and available vacancies.
  • Careful review of eligibility criteria for both categories is advised before finalizing preferences.
  • The Commission and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare will not entertain requests to alter or add preferences after submission.
  • Once a service cadre is allocated, requests for change will not be considered.

Vacancies and Reservation

The number of vacancies to be filled will be announced in a separate UPSC notice. As per government regulations, reservation quotas will be applicable for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.
