Revised time limit for registration of extant variety & farmers variety of crops

The Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA) vide notification dated August 17, 2022 has approved the time limit for registration of extant varieties of a few crop species. The time limit for all the registration of notified and extant variety of crops is 3 years from the date of approval of authority in the plant variety journal of India. The time limit for registration of farmers variety is 10 years from the date of approval of authority in the plant variety journal of India.

Extant varieties of crop species includes the following:

1. Horse gram [Macrotyloma uniflorum (Lam.) Verdc.]
2. Gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii Adlem ex. Hooker f.)
3. Coffee (Coffea arabica L. & Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner)
4. Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) and bidi tobaccos (Nicotiana tabacum (L.)
5. Moth bean [Vigna aconitifolia (Jacq.) Marechal.]
6. Cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba L.Taub.)
