Revised Application of Hallmarking Standards for Gold Jewellery and Artefacts

The Central Government has issued a new order to amend the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts Order, 2020. This amendment aims to further revise the list of states and districts to which the order will apply.

The amendment order is called the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts (Amendment) Order,
2024. It was published on November 5, 2024 and has come into immediate effect.

Key Changes

The amended order introduces revised list of districts for hallmarking gold jewellery and artefacts. The list of the states and districts to which the order applies are outlined in the updated ANNEXURE of the order. The Order currently applies to 26 states in India.

The new amendment is a significant step towards ensuring the quality and purity of gold jewellery and artefacts in India, protecting consumer interests, and promoting fair trade practices.
