Revamping Energy Governance: Amendments in Madhya Pradesh’s Electricity Code

The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) has recently enacted significant amendments to the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Supply Code, 2021. Under the authority vested by various sections of the Electricity Act 2003 and the Madhya Pradesh Vidyut Sudhar Adhiniyam, 2000, these changes aim to enhance regulatory provisions governing electricity distribution in the state. This notification was published on June 28, 2024.

Key amendments include defining “Metropolitan Area” under Chapter 2 and modifications in Chapter 4 concerning electricity dues, payment timelines in metropolitan areas, and provisions on load reassessment charges. Additionally, adjustments in billing computations for group housing societies under Clause 4.84 aim to streamline billing accuracy.

Further, Annexure 5 updates now incorporate references to the latest Electricity Supply Code, 2021, ensuring alignment with current regulatory frameworks and safety standards. These amendments signify MPERC’s commitment to fostering efficient electricity distribution practices and ensuring compliance with updated regulatory requirements across Madhya Pradesh.
