Rajasthan Government Revises Minimum Wages and Dearness Allowance for Tobacco Workers

On October 14, 2024, the Government of Rajasthan announced an important revision to the minimum wages and variable dearness allowances (VDA) for employees engaged in tobacco manufacturing, including the beedi-making sector.

Key Highlights of the Notification

Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) Period: The new VDA rates will be applicable from October 1, 2024, and will remain in effect until September 30, 2025.

    Daily Wage Calculation:

    • For daily wage employees, the minimum wage will be calculated by dividing the total monthly wage rates fixed for their specific class by 26.
    • Similarly, the daily VDA will be determined by dividing the monthly VDA by 26.

Applicability to Contractors: It’s important to note that the revised minimum wage rates and VDA also extend to workers employed by contractors. This inclusion aims to safeguard the rights and earnings of all workers in the tobacco sector, regardless of their employment status.

Implementation Date: The revised VDA rates will take effect from October 2024.
