Rajasthan Government Declares Holiday for Urban Body By-Elections

In a notification issued on December 31, 2024, the Governor of Rajasthan declared a holiday on January 9, 2025 for offices in polling areas for the Urban Body By-elections. This decision is made in accordance with the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, ensuring that employees in the polling areas can participate in the elections.

The holiday will apply to offices located within the polling areas, following the State Election Commission’s election program, which was released on December 19, 2024 and December 16, 2024.

Additionally, if re-polling is required in any constituency, the government will observe a holiday in the concerned constituency on the re-poll day to facilitate voter participation. This measure is in line with the Explanation to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and the Ministry of Home Affairs notification dated June 8, 1957.

The State Election Commission has also outlined the election schedule for the urban body by-elections in various districts, which can be referenced in their notification dated December 26, 2024.

This holiday declaration is aimed at ensuring smooth voter turnout and enabling citizens in the affected areas to exercise their voting rights without disruption.
