Punjab Facilitates Voter Participation for Factory Workers

The Labour Department of Punjab on September 17th 2024 issued a notification aimed at factory workers who are eligible voters in the upcoming General Elections. This initiative is designed to ensure that workers in registered factories in Punjab can exercise their right to vote in the State of Haryana and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Exemption for Workers

The notification specifies that workers in registered factories in Punjab who are enrolled as voters in the constituencies of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir will be exempt from the provisions of sub-section 1 of Section 52 of the Factories Act, 1948. This exemption is granted for the following polling dates:

  • 18th September 2024 (Wednesday) – Jammu and Kashmir
  • 25th September 2024 (Wednesday) – Jammu and Kashmir
  • 1st October 2024 (Tuesday) – Jammu and Kashmir
  • 5th October 2024 (Saturday) – Haryana

This exemption allows workers to prioritize voting on these critical days without facing the usual constraints of factory operations.
