Puducherry Government Announces Holiday List for 2025

The Government of Puducherry on November 25th 2024 has released its official holiday list for the calendar year 2025. This includes public holidays, bank holidays, and restricted holidays for government offices, institutions, and banks under the control of the Union Territory of Puducherry.

General Holidays for Government Offices and Institutions (Appendix I & II)

APPENDIX I:

The Governor of Puducherry has declared public holidays for all government offices, government undertakings, boards, and other institutions under the control of the Union Territory of Puducherry for the year 2025. These holidays will be observed across different regions of the Union Territory.

The regions covered by the declared public holidays are:

  • Puducherry and Karaikal regions
  • Mahe region
  • Yanam region

Public holidays have been specified in Appendix I for government offices and institutions.

APPENDIX II :

Similarly, Appendix II outlines public holidays for banking institutions, including cooperative banks, across the three regions mentioned above.

Excluded Holidays for Sundays

The Government of Puducherry has excluded two holidays that fall on Sundays in 2025 from the total count of holidays:

  • Sunday, 26th January 2025Republic Day
  • Sunday, 30th March 2025Ugadi (Telugu New Year)

These days have been excluded from the total count of 17 official holidays in the year, ensuring that 17 non-Sunday holidays are observed.

Restricted Holidays (Appendix III)

In addition to the fixed public holidays, the Governor of Puducherry has declared a list of restricted holidays in Appendix III. These restricted holidays provide government servants the flexibility to choose two holidays from the list.

  • Government employees can avail of these two holidays by applying in advance.
  • These holidays will be granted subject to the approval of their Superior Officer unless the employee’s presence is deemed essential for official duties.
  • No substitute holidays will be allowed for any declared festival holiday.
