In compliance with the recent directive under the Kerala Minimum Wages Rules, 1958, aimed at safeguarding outdoor workers from sun exposure, adjustments to working hours have been made. From February 17th to April 30th, 2024, employees toiling under the sun will now benefit from a mandatory rest period between 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m., with their daily shift spanning from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This measure seeks to mitigate the risks associated with the extreme heat conditions prevalent during the summer months. Moreover, teams comprising labor officials have been tasked with conducting regular inspections, particularly focusing on construction sites and road projects, to ensure adherence to these guidelines.
