The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a process for medical colleges and institutes to apply for the inclusion of new postgraduate medical qualifications. This initiative aims to expand the range of specialized medical training available in India. These notices were published on September 27, 2024.
The NMC (Recognition of Medical Qualification) Regulations, 2023, establish the procedures for incorporating new medical qualifications. As per the regulations, medical institutions offering undergraduate, postgraduate, or super-specialty programs can apply for new qualifications not already included in the official list.
Eligibility for Applications
Medical colleges and institutes can apply if they want to offer a postgraduate medical qualification not currently listed in Annexures of the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2023.
Application Process
Application forms are available on the NMC website under “Information Desk” → “Download Application Forms NMC” → “Form for Starting of New PG Qualification”.
Required Documents
Standard Assessment Form Part-A (Institutional Information common for all PG Specialities) and
Standard Assessment Form Part-B of the Parent Specialty.
A fee of INR 2,50,000/- plus GST @ 18% per qualification must accompany all applications. Applications sent without the proper format or fee will not be considered.
Guidance for Choosing the Right Program
The NMC understands that choosing the right program can be complex. Medical colleges and institutes desiring to start a new M.D./M.S., D.M./M.Ch., PDF, PDCC or 6 YEAR D.M./M.Ch. qualification can seek guidance from the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) before submitting their formal application.
Requests for guidance can be sent either to president.pgmeb@nmc.org.in or pgmeb.recognition@nmc.org.in. Only after receiving a response from the PGMEB should the institution submit a formal application with the required fee.
This initiative provides opportunities for medical colleges to offer specialized training programs that address emerging healthcare needs in India. The standardized application process ensures a streamlined and efficient system for expanding the range of postgraduate medical qualifications.
