The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) is offering online written exams to qualify individuals as “Competent Persons” under specific regulations. This certification is required for tasks related to pressure vessels and petroleum storage. This notice was issued on June 11, 2024.
Who can apply?
- Engineers with relevant degrees and experience in design, fabrication, inspection, or maintenance of pressure vessels or petroleum installations.
- Separate eligibility criteria exist for Petroleum Rules (2002) and Static & Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules (2016).
- Age limit: 65 years for Petroleum Rules, 70 years for Pressure Vessel Rules.
Examination Process
There will be an online written exam (100 multiple choice questions) for each rule set. Subsequently, the shortlisted candidates who pass the written exam will undergo an interview. The selection weightage is 60% written exam and 40% interview.

It is important to note that this exam is for new applicants seeking “Competent Person” recognition. Existing certified individuals don’t need to apply unless seeking additional competency under different rules.
