PCI Draws Attention To UGC Mandate On Anti-Ragging Measures

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has issued a notice urging all pharmacy institutions to monitor Anti-Ragging measures as per University Grants Commission (UGC) directions. This notice was issued on January 12, 2024.

The UGC has issued comprehensive regulations on curbing the menance of ragging in higher educational institutions. These regulations are applicable to all institutions across the country.

Accordingly, UGC had issued further directions dated December 14, 2023. According to these directions:

UGC has issued directions to educational institutions to undertake following mandatory measures to curb ragging:

  1. Anti-ragging cell
  2. Anti-ragging committee
  3. Anti-ragging helpline
  4. Anti-ragging workshops, seminars, posters and other awareness programmes
  5. CCTV cameras
  6. Anti-ragging sqaud
  7. Inspections
  8. Stringent punitive system
  • Anti-Ragging Regulations: All institutions are required to adopt the regulations and take steps for implementing them in including the monitoring mechanism. The regulations are available on the websites www.antiragging.in and https://www.ugc.gov.in.
  • Display of Anti-Ragging Posters: The UGC mandates all Universities to download and prominently display four anti-ragging posters on their Notice Boards and Websites. These posters can be accessed on the official website on www.antiragging.in. This measure aims to create awareness and discourage any incidents of ragging within the premises of the institutions.
