PBMC Conducts Operation to Clear Illegal Street Vendors

In a proactive move to reclaim public spaces, the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) recently undertook an eviction drive targeting unauthorized street vendors and hawkers within its jurisdiction. The initiative, aimed at curbing encroachments on roadsides and footpaths, focused particularly on Lambaline Road near the airport. This notification was published on July 3, 2024.

On July 2, 2024, PBMC officials conducted extensive operations, resulting in the removal of 25 illegal vendors who had occupied pathways and other public areas without proper documentation. The seized materials were confiscated during the operation.

PBMC authorities have reiterated their directive to street vendors and hawkers, emphasizing that vending without valid permits within PBMC areas is prohibited. Violators will face appropriate legal action in accordance with established procedures.
