Paid Holiday Announced for Haryana’s General Elections

The Government of Haryana notified on September 18th 2024 notified regarding paid holiday on account of General Elections for the Haryana Legislative Assembly approach. On Saturday, October 5, 2024, all Haryana Government offices, boards, corporations, and educational institutions will observe a paid holiday. This decision ensures that employees who are registered voters in Haryana have the opportunity to participate in the elections.

Key Details of the Announcement

  1. Paid Holiday for Government Employees: Under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996), all state government employees who are registered voters will be granted a paid holiday on election day.
  2. Private Sector Employees Also Covered: The announcement extends beyond government offices. Employees working in factories, shops, and private establishments in Haryana who are registered voters will also be entitled to paid leave on this crucial day. This means that everyone in the workforce has the chance to cast their vote without worrying about losing pay.
