The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has released a clarification on orthopedic knee implant price in an office memorandum dated 29th August, 2019.
Earlier in notifications dated 16th August, 2017, 13th August, 2018 and 13th August, 2019, NPPA had released regulations on ceiling prices of orthopedic knee implants for Knee Replacement System.
It has come to the notice of NPPA that certain Third-Party Administrators (TRAs) are not allowing trade margins to Hospitals/ Nursing Homes/ Clinic on orthopedic knee implants as per the rates prescribed in the Note (r) of the Notifications.
Therefore, it has been clarified that as per Note (r) of the Notification, Hospitals/ Nursing Homes/ Clinics are allowed to add trade margins on orthopedic knee implant price as per the rates prescribed subject to the overall limits of the ceiling prices and the ceiling prices are inclusive of trade margin.
