NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited commissions 1 MW Rooftop Solar Power Project at IIT Jodhpur

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) , a subsidiary of National Thermal Power Corporation  (NTPC), successfully commissioned its inaugural Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Project at IIT Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on 14th June 14, 2023. The Ministry of Power issued a press release on this inaugration on 16th June, 2023.

Implemented under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model, this one MW grid-connected solar project marks a significant step towards sustainable energy generation.

The RESCO model allows a renewable energy service company to design, build, fund, and operate the entire solar power plant, be it roof-mounted or ground-mounted. In return, the consumer pays the developer based on the assured monthly unit generation per kW, with the Distribution Company (DISCOM) adjusting the generated units in the consumer’s electricity bill.

The rooftop solar project at IIT Jodhpur has been set up across the roofs of 14 buildings within the campus. It is estimated to generate approximately 14.9 lakhs units of electricity annually, meeting 15% of the institute’s electricity requirements. Furthermore, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,060 tonnes per year, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the project spans a duration of 25 years, ensuring a long-term commitment to renewable energy generation.
