NMC permits Final-Year Students to appear in Final Examinations 2023 pending completion of BCBR

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a notice clarifying the eligibility of final year PG students for appearing in final examination 2023. This notice was issued on 31st May, 2023.

It may be recalled that as per the notification dated 11th December, 2019, all PG students, admitted from AY 2019-2020 onwards, would have to complete an online course on research methods to appear for the final examinations. This was applicable to all PG courses.

Subsequently, by a notice dated 7th June, 2022, an exemption was granted to all PG students admitted in AY2019-2020 who could not complete this online course. The exemption permitted the students to appear for the final examination provided they completed the online course in research methods within 6 months.

Similarly, the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) has received representations from students of AY 2020-2021 requesting a grant of exemption permitting them to appear for examinations in June 2023 despite not having completed the online course in research methods. The students have represented that they will complete the training course within 6 months.

Hence, the PGMEB has decided to permit all students to appear for the PG Examination 2023 on the condition that the result will be declared only after passing the online Basic Course in Biomedical Research (BCBR). The PGMEB has taken into consideration that the 2020-2021 was involved in COVID management for one and a half year of their course and the 2021 batch was admitted in Feb- March 2022.
