The Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission issued a notification on Implemetation of District Residency Programme. The notification was issued on 22nd December, 2022.
Post Graduate Medical Education Regulation 2000 (PGMER- 2000) provides for three months’ District Residency Programme (DRP). This programmes is in the district health system for PG students of broad speciality. Due to the pandemic, DRP has had not yet been implemented.
According to the PGMER-2000, DRP is mandatory in district hospitals for 3 months. The rotation shall be done by 3rd or 4th or 5th semester students of the postgraduate programme.
The National Lvevel Steering committee has decided the following in respect of the DRP:
- DRP is mandatory for all students admitted in 2021 batch onwards
- It is also mandatory for students admitted in private medical colleges and deemed universities
- In respect of the DRP, district hospital includes Community Healthcare CHC at Taluka Level, provided that it is public sector/ government funded hospital of not less than 100 beds with facility and staff for the designated specialities.
