The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice warning medical college authorities about individuals impersonating NMC officials, including the Chairman and Board Presidents, in an apparent attempt to solicit money. This public notice was issued on January 30, 2025.
Fraudulent Phone Calls
The NMC has become aware of reports that individuals are making phone calls to medical college authorities, falsely claiming to be the Chairman of the NMC or the President of various Boards under the NMC. These callers are reportedly seeking monetary favors.
NMC Advisory
The NMC categorically states that neither the Chairman, nor Presidents/Members of various Boards, the Secretary, or any other NMC authorities make such calls seeking financial favors. The NMC strongly advises heads and senior authorities of all medical colleges not to fall victim to these impersonators.
The NMC urges medical college authorities to take the following steps:
- Do not engage
Refrain from engaging in any conversations or communications with individuals claiming to be from the NMC who request money or other favors.
2. Report to Police
Immediately file a First Information Report (FIR) or a report with local police authorities, providing all details of such calls, including phone numbers, caller ID information, and the content of the conversation.
The NMC explicitly states that any individual who engages in or acts upon such fraudulent conversations or communications does so at their own risk. The NMC will not be held responsible for any consequences resulting from these interactions.
This public notice is intended to protect medical colleges and the public from misinformation and to prevent any unauthorized activities carried out by these impersonators. The NMC’s action aims to safeguard the integrity of the organization and ensure that medical college authorities are not misled by these fraudulent schemes.
