New Seed Varieties Notified for Indian Agriculture

The Central Government has notified a list of new seed varieties for various crops seeking to enhance agricultural productivity and quality. These varieties have been approved by the Central Seed Committee and are expected to boost agricultural output across the country. This notification was issued on November 13, 2024.

The newly notified varieties cover a wide range of seeds, including:

  1. Oilseeds: Mustard, coconut, vegetable soybean etc.
  2. Nuts: Cashew, walnut, nutmeg
  3. Vegetables: Tomato, potato, onion, okra, brinjal, carrot, drumstick, capsicum, etc.
  4. Beans: Cluster bean, Indian bean, French bean, yam bean, dolichos bean, etc
  5. Fruits: Mango, banana, custard apple, guava, jackfruit etc.
  6. Spices: Chilli, turmeric, ginger, cardamom, etc.
  7. Floriculture: Marigold, gladiolus, etc.

These varieties of seeds are notified varieties for India for Seed production for the purposes under the Seeds Act, 1966 and shall be sold for the purpose of agriculture in the States or Union territories, as the case may be, mentioned in the corresponding entries under the Table specified in the notification.

These new varieties have been developed through extensive research and testing by agricultural scientists and institutions across the country.
