New Regulations Set for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery Program

The Ministry of AYUSH has introduced new regulations titled “Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda for Under Graduate, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery Regulations, 2024.” These regulations aim at standardizing the undergraduate Ayurveda education. They have come into effect from March 7, 2024

Under these regulations, admission to the Ayurvedacharya (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) program will be based on merit in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate, conducted by an authority designated by the Central Government.

Students admitted to the program will be required to pay various fees, including enrollment, admission, examination, tuition, and other fees as specified by the Institute.

The program’s duration is set at four years and six months for academic sessions, followed by a compulsory one-year rotatory internship.

Instruction in the program will be conducted in Sanskrit, English, or Hindi, providing flexibility for students.

The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery degree program will consist of two parts: the main course and electives, offering a comprehensive curriculum.

Clinical training forms an integral part of the program, commencing from the first semester or year. Students will receive subject-related clinical training in affiliated hospitals alongside regular practical and demonstrative teaching sessions.

These regulations aim to enhance the quality of Ayurvedic education, ensuring that students receive holistic training and are equipped with the necessary skills to contribute effectively to the field of Ayurveda.
