The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has issued new regulations to facilitate the adoption of green energy and promote sustainable practices in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. These regulations outline the framework for Green Energy Open Access, allowing consumers to procure electricity from renewable energy sources. This notification was issued on November 12, 2024.
Key Points of the New Regulations
The regulations categorize Green Energy Open Access into three types: Long-Term, Medium-Term, and Short-Term.
Consumers with a contracted demand or sanctioned load of 100 kW or more are eligible for Green Energy Open Access.
Green Energy Open Access consumers will have priority over traditional open access consumers.
Consumers must install ABT compliant meters or special energy meters for accurate energy accounting.
Green Energy Open Access consumers will be subject to various charges, including transmission charges, wheeling charges, cross-subsidy surcharge, and additional surcharge.
The regulations allow for energy banking, enabling consumers to store surplus green energy for future use.
In case of grid constraints, Green Energy Open Access consumers will have lower priority for curtailment compared to traditional open access consumers.
The implementation of these regulations will encourage the adoption of renewable energy sources and contribute to a cleaner and greener Delhi.
