The Ministry of of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has issued two notifications establishing new Plant Quarantine Station (PQS) in Orissa and Gujarat. These new PQS seek to expedite the inspection and clearance process for plant imports in the regions.
The President of India has approved the establishment of a new PQS in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This notification was published on April 1, 2024.
The PQS facility in Bhubaneswar will function under the administrative control of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. It will be an attached office to the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage (DPPQS) headquartered in Faridabad.
Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has also notified the Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) (fourth Amendment) Order, 2024. The Order notifies another inland container depot in Gujarat. This notification is dated April 2, 2024.
The Order amends the Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) Order, 2003. It revises the list of Inland Container Depots and Container Freight Stations for import of plants and plant products.
The present Order adds one more PQS which will function as Regional Plant Quarantine Station, Kandla in Gujarat.
