The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has officially introduced the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (Compensation to Victims of Electrical Accidents) Regulations, 2024. These newly established regulations, which came into effect on July 25, 2024, are designed to ensure accountability among generating companies and licensees operating within the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Under these comprehensive rules, the compensation for loss of human life as a direct result of electrical accidents is set at ₹7,50,000 per deceased individual. For injuries that result in a disability between 40% and 60%, a compensation amount of ₹1,00,000 is payable, while for disabilities exceeding 60%, the compensation increases to ₹5,00,000. Additionally, specific compensation rates for livestock and poultry losses have been outlined, reflecting the importance of these animals in households. Timely reporting of electrical accidents and strict adherence to safety standards are mandated, with penalties imposed for non-compliance. The regulations also empower victims to seek additional compensation through existing legal avenues and frameworks. Furthermore, generating companies and licensees are required to submit monthly reports of electrical accidents to the Commission, thereby promoting transparency and facilitating swift action on behalf of victims.
