The Government of Bihar on July 20th,2024 issued amendments in the Bihar Motor Vehicles Act 1994, regarding the BH-Series.
BH-Series:
The BH-Series is a new vehicle registration series introduced to make it easier for people who frequently move from one state to another. Instead of dealing with different registration rules and taxes in each state, you can now register your vehicle under this unified BH-Series.
Updated Tax Rules:
The tax rules for BH-Series vehicles have been updated. Previously, payment of vehicle tax was for a period of 2 years at a time. With the new rule, when the vehicle is registered under the BH-Series, payment of tax covers 14 years in total. This is done in a single payment or in two-year increments.
Here’s how it works:
- Initial Payment: When the vehicle is initially registered under BH-Series, payment of tax is paid for the first 2 years.
- Additional Tax: Payment of the remaining tax is done for the next 12 years within 60 days of the initial registration. Failure to pay within this timeframe will lead to penalties.
The new rule aims to make life easier for those who are constantly relocating by providing a straightforward and consistent tax structure across states. It reduces the hassle of dealing with multiple state-specific registration rules and taxes.
The new rules will come into effect from 26th July 2024.
