New Appeal Process and Fees Announced by National Medical Commission

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice regarding filing appeals against their decisions. This notice was dated May 21, 2024.

The NMC emphasizes its appeal procedures outlined in previous notices dated December 28, 2022 and August 28, 2023. These notices aim to assist medical colleges in avoiding technical rejections of appeals.

The NMC has observed that despite these detailed guidelines, many colleges / appellants are still not following the procedure for filing appeals. The NMC further explains that a number of appeals received by it are deficient on various counts such as:

  1. invoking wrong section of the NMC Act;
  2. non-submission of all documents as per checklist prescribed in the public notice,
  3. appeal submission to non-concerned authority

Therefore, the present notice reiterates these aspects of the appeal procedure. Furthermore, it also introduces the following changes in the appeal procedure:

  • Revised Appeal Fees: A uniform fee system is implemented:
    • Rs. 50,000/- for appeals filed by colleges / institutions (applicable for academic year 2024-25 onwards).
    • Rs. 5,000/- for appeals filed by individuals.
  • Online Filing Only: All appeals must be submitted electronically via email to ‘nmc_appeal@nmc.org.in’ addressed to “Secretary, NMC”. Appeals submitted through any other method will be rejected.

The NMC also advises reviewing their previous public notices for detailed filing procedures before submitting an appeal.
