NCT Delhi Classifies laboratories by Corrigendum on public notice issued on 12.12.2018

A corrigendum has been released for clarifying the Public Notice regarding classification of laboratories and qualification for signing of laboratory reports, issued by Directorate General of Health Services, Government of NCT of Delhi, in newspapers on 12.12.2018.

As per the notice, all medical diagnostic laboratories situated in NCT of Delhi are classified into three categories, namely, Basic Composite, Medium and Advanced and every laboratory is obliged to display their category in a conspicuous place in their premises.  This corrigendum assigns the signing authority and clarifies their qualification for signing the report of these respective category of laboratories.

  1. The reports of the Advanced category and Medium category laboratories are to be signed either by doctors registered with Delhi Medical Council having Post-Graduate qualification in Pathology/ Bio-chemistry/Microbiology/ Laboratory Medicine or having MBBS with Ph.D. qualification in Pathology/ Bio-chemistry/Microbiology/ Laboratory Medicine.
  2. The reports of Basic Composite laboratory are to be signed by doctors registered with Delhi Medical Council having minimum MBBS Degree.
  3. Directed all the owner of the laboratories to display the signage at a conspicuous place in their premises regarding the category of their pathological laboratory.

the list of laboratories surveyed / mapped by this Directorate can be viewed on Delhi Government Website www.health.delhigovt.nic.in. In case the public finds that the reports provided by a Pathological Laboratory situated in NCT of Delhi is not signed in accordance to aforementioned directions, they may complain either to Secretary, Delhi Medical Council or Director General of Health Services.
