Navigating the Future: Hybrid Court Hearings in Goa

In a significant move towards modernizing legal proceedings, the Goa State Consumer Commission has adopted a hybrid mode of hearings, combining both physical presence and video conferencing. Effective July 8, 2024, this initiative aims to enhance accessibility and convenience for all parties involved, aligning with directives from the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India. This notification was published on July 3, 2024.

Under this new system, legal counsels and parties appearing in person can participate in hearings either physically at the Commission’s premises or through video conferencing via the Confonet platform (www.confonet.nic.in). This flexibility ensures that hearings proceed smoothly while accommodating diverse needs and circumstances.

During the hybrid hearings, participants are expected to adhere to courtroom etiquette, whether appearing physically or virtually. They must maintain microphone discipline, keeping it muted unless speaking, and minimize background disruptions to uphold the decorum of the proceedings. Clear guidelines are in place to prevent interruptions and ensure a focused environment conducive to fair and effective deliberations.

This transition to hybrid hearings reflects a commitment to leveraging technology while preserving the integrity and efficacy of judicial processes. By embracing these advancements, the Commission aims to streamline operations and deliver justice efficiently in the digital age.
